In a number of months on the founding with the Swan River Colony in June 1829 by no cost-settlers, there was a necessity for just a prison to incarcerate criminals. There was tiny infrastructure to the settlers, let alone criminals, so the shipwrecked Marquis of Angelsea, just off the coast from South Seaside, was employed being a makeshift prison.
